Birthday Party
Nicole's birthday party was last Friday and Saturday. Mom put together a wonderful "bed and breakfast" themed party. The house was decorated and spruced up to look like a bed and breakfast with flowers everywhere, lace tablecloths, fine china and silver and candles everywhere. Nicole had three of her friends over and they enjoyed a finger food dinner with a delicious chocolate fondue for dessert.

Nicole's friends brought wonderful gifts. They found out that she didn't have any art pencils so she got colored pencils, markers, some that have a watercolor type affect, plus papers and such. All the girls enjoy anime and drawing in that style. She also got a wooden dragon kit that looks fun. Nicole loves dragons.
All the girls but one stayed the night in our "bed and breakfast". Saturday morning they were treated to a stylish breakfast with chocolate croissants, fruit tarts and a variety of teas. Each girl had her own colorful teapot with a matching cup. After breakfast the chauffeur (aka Dad) took the group to old downtown McKinney, which has all kinds of fun and unique shops, antique shops, etc. We had a delicious lunch and a treat at a local coffee shop later in the afternoon. The girls had a lot of fun shopping and just having fun together.
Family Celebration
Nicole's actual birthday today (2/17). Today we had a small family celebration. We saved our presents for today. Nicole got a purse that's exactly what she wanted. It's in a nice green color and has lots of pockets and features. Oma gave her two pairs of gloves for her horseback riding. Nicole has been getting blisters and calluses, so those will be very nice. We also got her a laptop bag for her school laptop. The one the laptop came with is too big and doesn't fit in her locker. This one is as small as we could find that still had a
shoulder strap. From her cousins she got some cute PJ's and a gift card. The lady who lives next door has been giving Nicole some heirlooms from her mother. For her birthday she gave her a gold and pearl ring that's just beautiful. For her birthday cake Nicole chose a "Pumpkin Pie Cake". It's a delicious mixture of pumpkin and cake mix that Nicole fell in love with at Grandma's house over Thanksgiving.
This Year's Stats
Nicole hasn't really grown this year. She's perhaps 1/8 of an inch taller and that's about it.
Height: 5' 4 5/8"

This Year's News
The biggest news of the year is the economy. Today President Obama signed the biggest
stimulus bill in history, over 700 billion dollars. The DOW dropped to 7552 today, which the same level it reached last November 20 (Christopher's birthday) and is an 11 year low. There are lots of layoffs happening. The car companies are doing very poorly and are planning huge layoffs. It's going to be a rough year. The good news is that Mom and Dad have stable jobs and while we have to watch our budget, we're doing well.Nicole News
